Introducing solids is an exciting milestone and one where comfort and safety is a must. When choosing a highchair it is important to ensure your baby can sit comfortably and safely in the chair and that they cannot climb out or accidentally tip the highchair over. We have trialled many different highchairs and have come up with a list of what we believe is the best! 

 

1. The Evolu 2 Highchair

This is our personal favourite as it has a footrest and sleek wooden design makes it blend in with modern furniture. The tray slides on and off easily making getting baby in and out simple and easy.

Positives +

• Ease of use- can slide the tray easily on and off, easy to put baby in
• Sleek, modern design
• Easy to keep clean
• Large enough for an older toddler but still easy for a smaller, younger baby to sit comfortably too
• 5 point safety harness
• Sturdy and solid

Negatives -

• Not adjustable footrest
• A little on the pricier side

 2. The Tripp Trapp Chair- Stokke

Although a little pricier, this highchair grows with your child and allows them to use the chair from newborn (with the insert) and right through childhood. It is sturdier than its look-a-like cousins and the quality is exceptional. Available in a variety of colours it can easily blend in with your home decor too!

Positives +

• Grows with your child. Can be used from birth to 136kg
• Sleek, modern design
• Easy to keep clean
• Comes with a wide range of accessories 
• Exceptional quality
• 5 point safety harness (when purchasing with the baby set)
• Comes in a wide variety of different colours
• Adjustable footrest
• Can be used with a tray (additional) or without
• Becomes a comfortable seat for older children to use at the dining table

Negatives -

• A little on the pricier side
• Accessories are an additional cost

(IKEA Antilop High Chair)

3. The IKEA Antilop Chair

This is a favourite for many households. It is cheap, easy to clean and lightweight. The cons of this highchair however are that it does not come with a footrest which is so important for correct posture and comfort whilst eating. The Kmart, Big W and Target versions are very similar. The difference is that some have a 3 point harness and others a 5 point harness.

Positives +

• Lightweight
• Can be cleaned in the dishwasher
• Cheap and budget friendly 
• Removable tray
• Can be used without tray at the dining table

Negatives -

• No 5 point safety harness
• Can topple over much more easily than sturdier chairs
• Tray is not adjustable but can be taken off
• No footrest

(Kmart Prandium High Low Chair)

4. Kmart Prandium High Low Chair

Almost identical to the IKEA highchair in terms of functionality but comes with a 5 point safety harness.

Positives +

• Lightweight
• Can be cleaned in the dishwasher
• Cheap and budget friendly
• Removable tray
• 5 point safety harness
• Option of two heights
• Can be used without tray at the dining table

Negatives -

• Can topple over much more easily than sturdier chairs
• Tray is not adjustable but can be taken off
• No footrest

(Little Lou Switch)

5. Little Lou Switch

Positives +

• Quite lightweight but also sturdy
• Stylish design
• Small enough to fit at the dining table easily
• Relatively budget friendly
• Removable tray
• 5 point safety harness
• Comfortable for little babies to sit without slipping around
• Comfortable cushion
• Option of two heights
• Can be used without tray at the dining table

Negatives -

• Smaller tray than others
• Tray isn't adjustable
